Cù Bòcan Highland Single Malt

A celebration of the subtleties of smoke and perfectly balanced sweetness, Cù Bòcan is an experimental Highland Single Malt that explores innovative finishes to create whiskies full of intrigue and surprise. Made with lightly peated Scottish barley, distilled every winter in limited batches and matured in a variety of casks to unlock unusual flavours we create a subtly smoky and surprisingly sweet spirit.

Cù Bòcan Single Malt is made at Tomatin Distillery, a Highland Distillery just 15 miles south of Inverness. In late 2005, after Tomatin had achieved its annual production quota, our Distillery Manager at the time brought in a load of lightly peated barley allowing us to produce our own peated spirit for the last week of the year.

This production coincided with incredibly low water temperatures which allow for faster distillate condensation, and results in a slightly oilier mouthfeel in the new make spirit. Recognising the quality of this spirit, Cù Bòcan has been produced in small batches every winter at Tomatin Distillery since 2005.    

Cù Bòcan is for those with an adventurous spirit who actively seek out unique brands and experiences. When it comes to single malt, we want to rally against convention and encourage our audience to try something new and enjoy whisky in a myriad of ways. Consumers can be intimidated by the breadth of brands and flavours to choose from, their enjoyment is added to by understanding what they’re drinking and what makes it special, which is why transparency and authenticity are key to Cù Bòcan. 

The current range comprises of three products, Cù Bòcan Signature, and the Creation series. Signature is the only ongoing product within the range, matured in Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry and North American Virgin Oak casks. In the whisky that made our name, light smoke intertwines with rich citrus and exotic spices. Subtly smoky, surprisingly sweet, it opens up the world of lightly peated whisky.

Earlier this year two new limited-edition expressions within our Creation series; Creation #3 matured in Moroccan Cabernet Sauvignon and North American Rye casks and Creation #4 which has been matured in a combination of Tawny Port and Cognac casks were released with great success, and consequently sold through.

Bottled at 46% ABV, the range is non-chill filtered, natural in colour and carries a no age statement. Creation #3 and Creation #4 are limited releases, each with only 4,200 bottles available worldwide. Cù Bòcan is available in specialist shops worldwide with an RRP of £45 for Signature per 700ml bottle and £60 for Creations #3 and #4. 

Thanks to our lightly peated barley, every Cù Bòcan holds our signature wisp of smoke. Each edition is an exploration in the subtleties of smoke, the characters of the casks and the mastery of maturation.
